Livorno e La Pareggite or Close, But No Cigar
By: Marco Stucazzo | March 17th, 2009
OK…OK…We’ve been clearly dominating all season…getting numerous chances on goal per game, we’re still in the top 3 even tough Tommy Danilevicius started a lot of games, one of the best-if not the best (just to lazy to look it up)-defences in Serie B, the only goals we’re conceding are consequences of individual brainfarts, squad is compact and playing the system well and are imposing their own pace to almost each and every game…so what the fuck is the problem?!? (And I say this as a loving Livornese tifoso, that expects them to have a 15 point lead, wants them back thriving in Serie A ASAP, let’s say I’m hard to please)
Saying coach Acori is too easy, and the past has shown us that too many coaches causes headaches. While Mr. Acori has clearly shown his excellent knowledge of the game and its tactics all season long. He’s a very good tactician; he adapts his formation well to every opponent and does the same during games. Solid coach, no doubt…but is he a good enough motivator to get the best out of his players each and every time they grace the pitch? Livorno needs to hire Tony Robbins!
Not one player in particular is to blame…well maybe Francesco Tavano a little; i know he’s top scorer but that’s the minimum he would expect from himself given the circumstances…He has CL experience and ventured the fringes of Lippi’s Germany 2006 squad…that’s no small feat… Topping the Serie B charts is the least he could be doing…(I’d kick ass too if I could play little league baseball right now! (Please play; name that comedian in the comment section)) What Tavano needs to do is… Be consistent god damn it! And I mean that in a 90 minutes-focus-minded kind of way…Tavano needs to put his head down all game long…mentor Candreva, Diamanti, Rosi and Cellerino on what takes to be a pro and how easy it is to lose it all!!! Tavano needs to lead god damn it! And to do that he needs to show up 24/7…he’s the best paid player…and he needs to be more than just goals on the score sheet…just check out his reaction after his goal in Rimini!!!!
But the collective add up of individual stupid decisions here and there cost us at least 12 points this year…
Forza Amaranto!
Citadella…
Rimini…
See Tavano’s reaction when there is still some time to get a second one….maybe that’s Livorno’s problem….

In all fairness Tavano hasn’t had supremely gifted strike partners all season. I am hoping Cellerino is the answer to this. I have lost count of the times we were one clever pass away from an easy goal. I love watching Rossini because he is clearly doing everything possible with the talent he has however he is really the attacker you want to see coming on in the 60th minute rather than starting the game.
The squad before Cellerino was still probably the class of Serie B and without the “brain farts” or a little more hard work/luck would be several points clear in first place. Perhaps when Cellerino finds his legs we’ll see a few more goals.

Playoff starts June 7th against Grosseto, in a double leg semi final. Then June 11th is the final double leg, if Livorno wins against Grosseto, to play the winner of Empoli and Brescia in the finale. Winner of that game gets the last promotion spot to Serie A. Cross your fingers boys. Should be exciting.

So glad to have found some people who follow Livorno outside Italy!, I went to Armando Picchi last season to see Livorno v Cagliari last season, and despite the defeat fell in love with this club, lets hope they can get back to serie a. Forza Livorno!!

Comrades,
We’ve formed a Brigata Scozzese to follow Livorno when we can from Scotland. We have also set up a badly-needed English-language forum at aslivorno.proboards.com
Please come and help make it a success.
