If you want passion, sit in the curva.

real fans, real day at the football. Yes, even though Livorno are communist scum.

Sit in the Siena curva as a Livornese and yes, you will get your ass kicked. If the Livorno end is closed, then just settle for a tribuna seat, otherwise ask for a ticket in the "settore ospiti".

I would suggest not sitting in either curva - the view is not so good and that way there are no worries. Given that the teams are rivals, I suspect you would not be able to buy a ticket for the away fans section anyway.

Get a nice seat on one of the sidelines - and bring rain gear. October in Tuscany may be a little wet and, as I recall, Siena's stadium is largely open.

I need some help from the blog. I convinced my wife to take a trip to Italy, with the condition that we see a Livorno game. The problem is that the week we can make it is Oct. 4, when the Amaranto play at Siena. What do I need to know about attending an away match in Serie A? Can I get tickets in the Livorno section? And if I play the stupid American in the Siena section, can I not get my ass kicked?

Sorry for the foolish American questions, and I'll apologize in advance for putting this up on multiple Marco blog posts.

I think that the quality of competition concern is a legitimate one. However, I don't think that the gulf is so vast as to keep Donovan from succeeding. The thing to remember about Landon is that he likes being "the guy". I think that his primary interest in Livorno is that it is a club that is small enough that the competition allows for greater opportunity in playing time than a club like Milan or Juve, while allowing a high level of competition. While that may seem critical, I don't see it as a negative. I think that, at this point in his career, he has enough maturity to deal with a league like Serie A and I really think that it could be a good fit for both parties.

Also, it seems that you guys are interested in Ricardo Clark as well. I like that the President of Livorno is being creative in seeking talent.

You're right that I might be overly critical of Landon. He has played well in the past several years, both for club and country. My concern is the quality of competition in MLS and in CONCACAF. I think he has the ability to explode once he gets to Europe, and I hope he does that wearing the Amaranto. Forza Livorno!

PS Please forgive any Italian translations. I'm trying to learn.

Diamanti's a treq, I'm not sure that Donovan would fit in that position, but who knows. I think the problem with Donovan is more in perception than anything else. People are still looking at his performances in 2006, rather than his last two years. If one is being objective, he has really played well in that time period.

Regarding the potential Donovan transfer: As an American, I think it's a good move because he needs exposure to a European league to ramp up his game ahead of the World Cup. As a Livorno fan, I think he's nowhere near the quality of Diamanti, so if Donovan is the replacement it's a net loss.
