Synonyms: Cagliari – Livorno December 2nd 2007
Cagliari-Livorno 0-0, The Double Goose Egg is often a synonym of a bland, lifeless game between two over-prudent teams that forgot people actually took some time off and PAID to enjoy a professional football match. By far, the least interesting Serie A game of the weekend.
I could maybe twist this around, rave about how an excellent display of good old-fashioned Italian defence was the winner in this game, but let’s call a platypus a platypus! This game sucked White-faced Saki Monkey balls! Only a meagre 4 (!) shots made it to the 2 keepers the whole game. So I’ll try to make this short and sweet. If you want a real round-up go here.
Livorno basically practiced the Defense against mediocre counter attacks and clearing headers out of the box. This Livorno looked like Nando Orsi’s Livorno, minus the conceding 5 goals thing . The good thing is that Livorno can add another clean sheet on the defensive side.
Diego Tristan continued to do well; his was the only shot that bothered Cagliari GK Maruocco the whole game. Tavano returned to decidedly sub-par again, I guess consistency is not one of his strong points. The absence of Martin Bergvold left the midfield lacking that extra class they had in the last games. Livorno will need to look at an extra midfielder during the Winter Window, preferably a professional version of Vikash Dhorasoo. GC Camolese tried to shake thing up by subbing both attackers during the Second half but to no avail. Johnny Camels had this to say “That quality of knowing how to suffer is important for a group which knows it has to do a lot to obtain the survival .”
Even if this game was monotonous at best I can always rejoice with the fact Livorno is on a 5 game unbeaten streak!

Marco Amelia flirting with other clubs a.k.a thank you Captain Obvious
Marco Amelia has reiterated his love to AS Roma AGAIN (I can’t really blame him).
We all know that this is Marco’s last season in Livorno, even if I thought the same thing last year. The chances of Marco remaining are about as good as the ones seeing Lindsay Lohan’s STD test results being Negative.

In my book Marco’s an overrated ‘keeper, he’s good, but he’s not Gigi good. I find that Livorno makes Marco Amelia look better than Marco Amelia makes Livorno look and the 3rd choice keeper for the Azzurri should be a little more grateful towards his current team, Aldo has asked Marco to shut the hell up in the past. Marco ”Mutande” Amelia needs to show some respect before he gets shipped to Spartak or Shakthar. As an Italia fan, I want to see Amelia playing against big teams in the Champions League anyways….
I don’t think Livorno’s next adversary really wants Marco (Chris seems to agree), even if what’s his face Doni is not a world class GK. And I don’t wanna hear about how he won the Copa America and all, Doni isn’t world class. If Amelia goes to Roma, we would probably get GianLuca Curci on some sort of loan deal. I can’t wait for Curci to mature but i don’t want to see him ”learn” the hard way in Livorno. Curci to Livorno would be excellent for his growth, but not so excellent for a team that needs to fight ’till the bitter end for Salvation ; I don’t see Livorno battling for a UEFA spot with Curci between the sticks next year either. I’m probably wrong, but i’d rather have a Veteran than a promising youngster.
This long transfer saga is becoming long and redundant. Amelia is hitting on every team in Europe, he’s THAT tired of banging his girlfriend, the man would couple with anyone in 9th place or better.
So here’s want I think about the situation:
Just imagine that Amelia as the crackhead, Shawn Wayans is AS Roma and Marlon Wayans is Lazio, Tottenham or Palermo

No sir, YOU are a platypus!
Amelia to Roma makes sense for only one person: Amelia. I mean, he’s good, but Curci has the higher ceiling (hence the reason MA is in Tuscany in the first place) and Doni makes peanuts. Plus, as inconsistent as he is, he can make come insane saves. Though I do think Curci would be much better down the table than most people think.
(And the thought of any Wayans as Roma makes me sick, but thanks for at least making it Shawn and not Marlon - even though he was pretty damn good in Requiem.)

I’m big on Curci for the Future but i don’t see him replacing Amelia to save us from the drop. And, like you said in your last post, i don’t see Roma selling 50% of Curci for the likes of M. Amelia.
Doni has the skills, but he’s inconsistent as hell. When he shows up he’s amazing , but when he doesn’t, My god hide the children! He’s the Amy Winehouse of Goal Keeping.
Ah Requiem a Movie that was excellent. A Movie that good with the non-talent of Marlon Wayans, Jared Leto and J. Connelly is crazy…
